ACC Post

In stave four, Scrooge was visited by another spirit. This spirit goes by the name of The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. The spirit was described as a phantom. It was tall, its face and body were covered, and the only thing we were able to see of it was the skeletal hand. The spirit did not talk at all, so it was mute. It was the physical representation of the Grim Reaper or the Angel of Death. The huge idea of being unknown is the spirit's point. The unknown is one of the worse fears of humans. There are three Christmases that they visit. The first scene is two businessmen talking about a man's death. They speak poorly about the man and make fun of how they will only attend the funeral if there's food. The second scene would be very brief. The second scene was an exchange between two men talking about Old Scratch. The third scene takes place in the slums of London. Mrs. Dilber is a woman trying to flip some things to a man named Joe who probably sells things on the "black market". Mrs. Dilber is selling Joe bed curtains, a blanket, and a set of pajamas. Mrs. Dilber claims that she had gotten it from a dead man, but the real story is that she had pulled them all off the dead corpse of the body of Scrooge. They joke about the dead man which really just adds insult to injury.

First of all, the author is using a lot of dark humor here. The characters crack a lot of dark and morbid jokes. I also think that some people took it a bit too far to make fun of dead man, even when he's not had a happy life. I feel bad to the extent of how of it goes. It goes to the point where a woman has no respect for his corpse and just steals his stuff while his corpse is on the bed. What's disgusting is that she had stripped the corpse of its clothes as well. Also, that robbers had stumbled upon his corpse first instead of family or friends. At this point, Scrooge really feels bad for the person they're talking about. I honestly feel bad when Scrooge realizes that they were all talking about him. The business men were very disrespectful in saying that the only way they would attend the funeral would be if there were free food. I also think that the spirit's emotion that he is using, fear, is really working.

  1. Great job, in the begining in presenting the spirit. It is very brief and well written, also lots of depth put in to it, very detailed. Also great job talking about the dead corpse in the paragraph. Talking about Scrooge´s death with the man and woman making dark humor about the death and saying that no one cares about Scrooge, really hust Scrooge. This had depth and was well written, great job!

  2. Good job on summarizing Stave Four so far. I agree with you, some of the dark humor went a little to far. I find it weird that someone would steal off of a corpse. I find it funny that Scrooge doesn't realize sooner, that the dead person that everyone is talking about is him. Why doesn't he connect the dots of, this is his future, he doesn't see himself, they say the dead body was really mean in his life. I agree, I think fear with make Scrooge change forever.

  3. Very good job Akio I liked reading your blog post.I agree with you in many ways and one of them being is that they took the bad humor to far. Also I found it disgusting that she took items from his house as he was dead. The most disgusting part is that she took of his pjs while he was sleeping. I also feel bad for Scrooge because he does not know that they are talking about him. You did a great job overall I would just add a meme or a gif next time you do your blog post.

  4. I like how you pointed out the dark humor rather than shying away from any outraged reactions. Your summary had all the major details and information. You also had a lot on the worst fears of humans and why the fear of unknown was worse. You also did great relating it to the Ghost of Christmas yet to come.
