Scrooge and Fred

Image result for christmas carol memesIn the first stave, Scrooge was visited by his nephew, Fred. Fred is the exact opposite of Scrooge. He is happy, joyful, and full of hope. All he wants to do is bring his uncle into the laughter and joy, but his uncle Scrooge doesn't want Fred around. Fred tries to interfere with Scrooge's work schedule, so he can get his mind off of work. However, no matter what Fred does, Scrooge always ends up pushing him away, and shutting him out of his life. Fred isn't the only one trying to cheer up Scrooge from his misery. Many people visit Scrooge in one day, however, everyone, Scrooge just sends away without another thought. Fred is just the only one that keeps on trying to come back and cheer him up, and everytime Scrooge sends him away over and over again. Fred tries everything that he can think of by trying to invite him to parties or just finding ways to get him off the job. Fred keeps on trying, but I don't know how long Fred is going to keep on dealing with Scrooge's selfishness.

Fred is a nice nephew, but he isn't going to stay around forever coming up with different ways to get Scrooge's mind off of his work. No matter what Fred tries to do, Scrooge always finds a way to shut him down, and make Fred realize that Scrooge isn't worth his time. I don't understand why Scrooge would become so rude and arrogant towards people that he starts to cheat people and make them feel horrible. I think that Fred plays an important role in Scrooge's life, and he doesn't even realize it. Even though Scrooge makes Fred feel terrible just by the way he treats him, Fred continues to come, but I don't know if he will continue to come back. I think that the reason why Scrooge pushes Fred away, because Fred is a painful reminder to Scrooge about what he lost. His sister, Fan, died after the birth of Fred, and everytime Scrooge sees Fred, he probably sees his sister. His sister is what keep him happy in his youth, and every since she died, Fred has tried to take the place in cheering him up, but it doesn't work. Fred has tried, but he has failed a countless number of times, but just maybe he might be enough to nudge him into being a little bit happier.

  1. Overall, good job on your post. You did really well describing the relationship between Scrooge and his nephew, Fred. Now thinking of it, I do agree with you on how you think that in the end off all of this, Fred is going to realize that he can't do much to change Scrooge, and in the end, Fred is not going to try or wait for Scrooge to change his ways anymore. I also agree with you when you wrote saying that you think Fred plays a big part in Scrooge's life even though it may not seem like it. Fred is now Scrooge's only family, and he may be the only person that really tries to change and get closer to Scrooge. Lastly, I also agree with your point on how Scrooge may push Fred away, because of the painful reminder that Fan died giving birth to him. In the end, this may be the main and maybe the only reason as to why Scrooge does not have a strong and loving relationship with Fred, but instead pushes him away.

  2. I liked your blog post you brought an interesting perspective to Fred's personality. You comparison between the two showed all the differences between them. I also found it intriguing that you think Fred is going to leave and stop putting up with Scrooge. He is very justified to do so as he is treated like dirt, but I do not think he will. After all Scrooge in four days is going to become a nice guy with the ghosts being done their voyage, So Scrooge will probably change before Fred says enough is enough. I also liked the insight you had on the reason Scrooge is so mean to Fred, it probably is because he constantly reminds him of his dead sister like you said.
